Welcome to 30 days to Peace.
Man, 2020 sure stole a lot from us, right? I’d say 2021 seems to want to keep messing with us. And, by the look on his face, I don’t really think that he’s bluffing. Do you?
We’ve come to this place where it seems like our best is not enough. There is fighting and division in our homes and communities. Social media is out of control. We’ve even seen reports about how it preys on our children and teens. Not to mention the anxiety we get when our friends become disagreeable.
So what do we do when life gets out of hand? How do we control ourselves and our behavior? How can we feel at peace when things are swirling around us? Breathe.
You may think it’s silly, but bringing peace into your home means bringing peace into every part of your life. This starts with your mind, body, and soul. Breathing helps.
Studies have shown that even a little deep breathing helps lower blood pressure, reduces anxiety, helps us sleep better, and more. I listed those three because I have personal experience. Trust me.
Of all the breathing exercises, let me share my favorite. Box breathing. Close your eyes. Or don’t, I’m not the boss of you. (Plus, you might be in public so no need to attract attention.) Breathe in while counting to four. Hold it for four. Breathe out for four. Hold it for four. That’s it. Repeat as needed. Relax. Really do this. Really think about it. Do it in front of your computer screen, in front of your screaming toddler, or in traffic. Bring peace to your mind by letting it relax. Let yourself go.
And breathe.
See you tomorrow for day 2!
