Slow Down and Make Your Home a Refuge 30 Day Challenge! Day 1

Well friends, today we begin our 30 Day Challenge. Every day during the month of November we are going to explore a way to help us slow down and to make our home a safe place of refuge for ourselves and others. In doing so, my prayer for you is that you are able to clear the distractions and grow in your relationship with the Lord.

So. Today. Day 1. Let’s start simple. And yet, it’s something that many of us rarely take the time to do. We are just too busy. Today I want you to commit  to spending at least 15 minutes outside. I honestly don’t care what the temperature is outside or what the weather is like where you are. Be creative. Bundle yourself in a million blankets and take a book outside. Throw on a hat and bring a candle outdoors with you. Take a walk around your neighborhood. Savor. Really, I’m telling you. Savor those moments in nature. Breathe the crisp air. What does it smell like? Feel the wind blow. Watch the leaves as they swirl around. God made all of this. He made it all for you. To enjoy. To savor. To watch and listen and discover. Spend your 15 minutes in silence or with someone important. Spend your time thinking through your day, or clearing your mind of everything. No matter. Just savor. You will be thankful for a few minutes of stillness and fresh air.

If you would like, I would love to hear of your experience! We can share our ideas with each other and learn from each other during this whole experience.slow down and make your home a refuge 30 day challenge. day 1_Go outside. commit to spending 15 minutes outside in nature today.

  1. Spent my time out on my porch with the rain pouring down and a cup of coffee. The colors, the sounds, and the smells of nature are all just too wonderful. Used this time to write out my prayers in my journal. Finished up with the November 1st devotional in “Jesus Calling.”

    This what it read:
“Do not be discouraged by the difficulty of keeping your focus on Me. I know that your heart’s desire is to be aware of My Presence continually. This is a lofty goal; you aim toward it but never fully achieve it in this life. Don’t let feelings of failure weigh you down. Instead, try to see yourself as I see you. First of all, I am delighted by your deep desire to walk closely with Me through your life. I am pleased each time you initiate communication with Me. In addition, I notice the progress you have made since you first resolved to live in My Presence. When you realize that your mind has wandered away from Me, don’t be alarmed or surprised. You live in a world that has been rigged to distract you. Each time you plow your way through the massive distractions to communicate with Me, you achieve a victory. Rejoice in these tiny triumphs, and they will increasingly light up your days.”

It’s like a high five from Jesus!!!
